LG Electronics (LG) an established name in mobile communications is now the first Korean company to join the LTE/SAE Trial Initiative (LSTI*), an association promoting the early adoption of the Third Generation Partnership Project’s Long Term Evolution technology, or 3GPP LTE**.
3GPP LTE, one of the most advanced mobile communication technologies to date, is currently undergoing 4G technology standardization by the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP).
This is the most likely technology to become the 4G standard, as many of the world’s major operators and telecommunications companies are members of LSTI. Other compnies making use of this technology include include Vodafone, Orange, T-Mobile, Ericsson, Nortel, Alcatel-Lucent, Nokia Siemens and NTT DoCoMo.
“LG’s membership in LSTI will allow us to consolidate our technology leadership beyond 3G and strengthen partnerships with leading operators and telecommunications companies,” said Jin Sung Choi, vice president & head of LG electronics Mobile Communication Technology Research Lab.
With the advent of this technology, it’s possible to download at 100Mbps and upload data at 50Mbps on LG handsets while users are on the move.
