Tuesday, July 10th, 2007

LG Electronics (LG) an established name in mobile communications is now the first Korean company to join the LTE/SAE Trial Initiative (LSTI*), an association promoting the early adoption of the Third Generation Partnership Project’s Long Term Evolution technology, or 3GPP LTE**.

3GPP LTE, one of the most advanced mobile communication technologies to date, is currently undergoing 4G technology standardization by the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP).

This is the most likely technology to become the 4G standard, as many of the world’s major operators and telecommunications companies are members of LSTI. Other compnies making use of this technology include include Vodafone, Orange, T-Mobile, Ericsson, Nortel, Alcatel-Lucent, Nokia Siemens and NTT DoCoMo.

“LG’s membership in LSTI will allow us to consolidate our technology leadership beyond 3G and strengthen partnerships with leading operators and telecommunications companies,” said Jin Sung Choi, vice president & head of LG electronics Mobile Communication Technology Research Lab.

With the advent of this technology, it’s possible to download at 100Mbps and upload data at 50Mbps on LG handsets while users are on the move.

Feel the ipod effect of Fiat 500

Wednesday, July 4th, 2007

What Apple is to the technology world, classic Fiat 500 will be to the auto industry! The new Fiat 500, expected to be unveiled on 11 July would surely be breaking the limitations of carmakers by welcoming the technology advent done by Apple. The model is designed following the success of the iPod music player. The look and feel of this new version of the car at its launch party scheduled for next week in Turin, company’s the hometown.

The footprints of its model is a replica of the original1950s three-door “cinquecento” (500 in Italian model) with the rounded bubble-like design, which generated the sales 4 million models since last 50 years. It seems that the brand believes—HISTORY REPEATS. I wish the same for fiat.

The idea is to give it a trendy look. One can trust the ideas and hopes of the company as it is following the culture where success of new classic versions lies in ancient but “nostalgia” cars. To exemplify we have a ready model of the Volkswagen and Mini and the credit for their success goes to BMW.

Cinquecento wasn’t seen on roads in 1975, nearly after 18 years of its production. And this new model took only 18 months to breed new 500 into the market.

The expected price of the car will be 10,000 euros ($13,600), according to Italian newspapers. Also the word is around that it would produce only 120,000 units annually against Fiat’s total production of about 2 million units. And its seemingly tough competitor is Twingo, a revamped version of Renault.
